Falls are the leading cause of fatal injuries and the second leading cause of nonfatal injuries for people over 65. In Assisted Living Facilities, 30% of seniors experience at least one fall per year with 40% of the falls resulting in hospital stays are attributable to hip fractures. With an estimated cost of $2.4 billion annually to treat injuries to seniors, injuries due to falls represent 41% of this cost to our health care system.
